How to Plan a Sustainable Event

I’m Bethan, founder of sustainable supplier directory Little Green Book. Our core values are to make it as easy as possible to find sustainable, ethical and eco-friendly suppliers to plan your next event. Whether that’s a wedding, birthday party or corporate conference.

Events can be wasteful, and traditionally are. We’re reframing how event planning is thought and putting sustainability at the forefront. Below I’ve featured just a few of our eco-warrior suppliers and how they are working in an environmentally conscious way.

Due to their proximity to nature, Florists were some of the first in the events industry to make steps to a more sustainable way of working. One of our favourite approved suppliers is Floral Roots. Owned and run by Chloe, Floral Roots works with the seasons, using British-grown flowers, often from their very own cutting garden, to create organic looking natural flower displays which are always foam-free.

Listed supplier, Cake Me By Surprise, uses wooden dowels, compostable cling film and a heated compost bin to run their businesses with an eco-friendly mindset. They also recycle goods and reuse large fondant buckets to produce the least waste possible.

Sustainable caterers Dinner Ladies work with seasonal British ingredients with contemporary flavours to keep their menus environmentally conscious. Dinner Ladies champion the war on waste within the food industry and support a number of charitable projects including their own project, The Wasted Supper.

Hiring in items for your event instead of buying goods outright is one of the best ways you can promote the Reuse and Reduce values of sustainability by allowing the items to be multi-purpose and reducing waste from buying and disposing of products post-event. Little Green Book supplier The Blissful Bride is one of our favourites, providing upcycled and reclaimed vintage pieces lovingly restored to their full glory to be used time and time again.
